The beautiful thing about an idea is, that it can completely capture your imagination, and then spur you to go beyond all limits to achieve your dream. I consider myself one among those, who have been consumed by an idea – an idea that will ultimately add to the creation of a Digital India!
3 years ago, I saw a young man in a crowded bus, who had his headphones on. I thought it would be great, if this young man could get the information he wanted on his headphones, and that too, in his own language. It would be great if he could listen to articles in an audio format and access more content from the real world irrespective of whether he was literate or not. This led us to think about a solution that could potentially reinvent speech syntheses!
Our team came up with an innovative solution - Indian TTS (Text to Speech), that would help machines speak in their vernacular language! The owner can have a set of messages or text prepared in their local language, and Indian TTS would convert these to speech. Using single board computer chips, we could distribute technology to local manufacturers and allow their machine to speak, giving a local-authentic voice to a machine!
Refined values added after the challenge.
When we were chosen among the Top 20 teams for the Accelerator phase of the Intel & DST – Innovate for Digital India Challenge, we got exactly what we wanted - a chance to learn about the Indian market and consumers, from experts in the field. We got the chance to learn the nuances of developing such a product for regional consumption. Our business model also changed drastically with the support from expert mentors, and we saw significant changes in almost every aspect of our product.
Another important moment in the formation of India TTS arrived, when we discovered that the Intel® Edison platform was ideal for developing our own speech engine. Now our solution is based entirely on Intel® Edison!
An idea is only as good as its practical usage, and after displaying it at the National IOT event and the Prototype Day, we have received encouraging reviews from business executives, delegates and industrial experts. This leads me to believe that our innovation is definitely viable for application on a national scale! The entire IFDIC journey and the showcase events have boosted our confidence and belief in ourselves.

And to top it all, our visit to Rastrapati Bhavan has been an unforgettable part of my life. The entire team was so proud to pitch our innovation in front of our Honorable President. It is a very rare moment for any startup in their journey.
